How it all started…

It all started with a desire, a dream, to travel the world like my grandfather and have extraordinary adventures with God… quite the way to begin a story, right?

I still remember when I was about ten years old and my grandfather returned from one of his trips. He showed us slides of the tropical countries he had visited. Later, I read his newsletters detailing the adventures he experienced. I wanted that too!

Years later, that dream resurfaced. I traveled with different people, learning and seeing a lot. After one of my trips, in 2018, I met my now-Pakistani friend Nadeem. He was doing amazing work in brick factories, helping widows and orphans. I began supporting him—initially with some healthy skepticism—but our friendship and trust in each other grew.

In 2020, I made my first trip to Lahore, Pakistan. I met the widows and families I had occasionally helped through Nadeem. I visited the brick factories and gained a deeper understanding of debt slavery.

If you want to, making a difference in someone’s life isn’t that hard. Often, there’s already enough need within just a kilometer around you—let alone across borders…

That was the first time we bought a family out of debt slavery. And so began the process of freeing families and guiding them toward independent lives. Upon returning, I rallied friends and family to provide ongoing support to this family and the widows’ families.

During the 2022 floods, which submerged a third of Pakistan, we started aid projects in southern Pakistan through a trusted network.

The work, the network, and the responsibilities continue to grow. It’s wonderful that from the Netherlands we can help those less fortunate, no matter how small the impact may seem. Yet even small efforts bring change and hope into the lives of the people we meet.
